Meet the team at Scarborough Lions
Phil Kershaw

I have been a member of Scarborough Lions Club since 2022, a relatively short time, but a really interesting and satisfying time. I decided to join the Lions because I have always had a strong sense of community and felt the Lions were a great way of serving the community.
A decision I have not regretted. I am currently the clubs Treasurer and Secretary and find the challenge so fulfilling.
If you have an interest in community service in what ever capacity I would strongly recommend you come along to one of our meetings to see if its for you.

I joined Scarborough Lions Club about 6 years ago and I am currently enjoying being the Club’s President.
When I retired from the NHS I welcomed a well earned rest but I needed something else. I attended a Lions meeting and eventually I joined and have never regretted it.
I really feel that giving something back to my community through community service is so rewarding.
We meet all kinds of people in a variety of different settings and circumstances.
We’re a friendly bunch, so if you have a few hours spare a month, come to one of our meetings (second Monday of every month), have a drink with us and find out if it’s for you – I promise you a very warm welcome.

I’ve been a Scarborough Lion for over two and a half years now, and I truly enjoy the fundraising efforts and making a positive impact in our community. I find great value in our Lions club meetings and the regular social events we host. I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting Lions from other clubs, like Filey and Bridlington.
As the Lion in charge of Facebook and social media, I combine my love for photography with promoting the work of the Scarborough Lions, capturing moments that help raise awareness of our cause.
The Lions Clubs are a global movement, active in many countries around the world, and we welcome everyone to join us in making a difference.

I joined the Scarborough Lions over seven years ago because I had some spare time and wanted to give back to our local community. I knew how much the Lions did for people, both locally and internationally, and I wanted to be part of that effort.
As the fundraiser for our group, I work with a wonderful team that is always eager to find new ways to make a difference. We are a close-knit group, ready to come together whenever needed, and we’re fortunate to have amazing friends of the Lions who help us out with activities.
If you’re looking for a way to help others and find fulfilment in doing so, we’d love for you to join one of our meetings. You’ll be warmly welcomed, make new friends, and discover just how rewarding it can be to give back.

I am an African from Nigeria. It has been my desire to become a member of Lions club ever since I was in Nigeria but due to one busy schedule or the other I couldn’t join the great association.
I was warmly welcomed on my first day of the meeting.
Lions associations don’t treat anyone unfairly or differently or deny rights because of genders, age, race, religion or beliefs, sexual orientation, disability or anything else.
You are not too young to become a member today.
Being a Lion has been one of the fulfilling and exciting moments of my life. Lions are changing lives for the better all around the world.
I am glad to become a member of this great family.

I joined the Scarborough Lions just prior to the covid pandemic, having been introduced to the group by another retired work colleague.
I am responsible for collecting old spectacles, hearing aids and medicine blister packs on behalf of the Lions, which works out really well, because I can fit it in on an as and when basis.
I particularly enjoy collections at local supermarkets for local causes at Easter and Christmas time and any stalls that we run throughout other times in the year.
The New Years Day dip on the foreshore is possibly the most rewarding. Mingling with the crowd with my collection bucket. The atmosphere is just wonderful!
I feel proud to be part of this group of volunteers and can recommend anyone giving it a try if you have a few hours to spare and want to add to your social outlet.
